The Trawler is a wordless book with two parallel tales of lives led at sea. Linocut artist Chris Hicks illustrated this story by David Bailey with beautiful linocuts.
Chris Hicks is fascinated by the sea and has spent many holidays beachcombing and snorkelling off the Devon coast. Chris studies for a degree in Graphic Design at Chelsea School of Art before taking an MA in Narrative Illustration at the University of Brighton.
The Trawler tells two parallel tales of lives led on the sea. Completely wordless, it uses the expressive power of Chris Hicks’ linocuts to tell its stories of the sea and the rich harvest to be found there. Following the trawler from port to the open sea and back again, The Trawler is a fitting tribute to an endangered way of life.
